Giving to the benefice

The running expenses that a benefice incurs to do its work are considerable. This is quite apart from any maintenance to the fabric of our buildings. The Diocese of Peterborough pays any stipends that clergy receive, but the parishes are responsible for their expenses such as travel costs. The parishes also pay what is called Parish Share, which is their contribution to the diocese's expenses.

The church's income is partly derived from fees for services such as funerals and weddings, but mainly from offerings, fundraising events and donations. Unfortunately, in the current situation with churches locked and all events cancelled, our income has decreased considerably, but we still have considerable outgoings – mostly to pay for the ministry of our Rector and Curate which is continuing during the lockdown.

We would be grateful for any help you can give us. The most efficient way of doing this is through planned giving, when the church knows what to expect and can also reclaim Gift Aid for contributions made by taxpayers. This can be organised through the Rector.

The separate parishes have their own giving schemes which you will see on their pages, but since our expenses are pooled it makes sense for us to ask for donations to be pooled too.
