Thy Kingdom Come

Thy Kingdom Come

This month, as part of the Archbishop of Canterbury and York’s 2018 ecumenical prayer movement “Thy Kingdom Come”, the churches across the benefice will be ‘going outside’ and organising a series of prayer walks around the villages they serve. Prayer walking is as simple as it sounds – praying as you walk – with the homes and communities on our hearts and minds. This global event will happen between Ascension Day and Pentecost – this year between the 10th and 20th May and in order to cover all the villages we have divided them as follows:

Yardley Gobion : Friday 11th, Sunday 13th, Tuesday 15th

Potterspury: Monday 14th, Wednesday 16th, Friday 18th

Cosgrove: Saturday 12th , Thursday 17th

Wicken :  Saturday 19th

All of the prayer walks will begin at 10.30am EXCEPT for Sunday 13th at Yardley Gobion which will begin at 11.00am.

Everyone is welcome to be involved in this initiative – you don’t have to go to church - but we appreciate that some may be unable to walk with us. With that in mind we have produced some booklets which will give everyone a chance to take part, but ‘walking’ mentally if you prefer, either linking up with others each day to pray or using the prayers alone. The booklet states the meeting place in the particular village each day and the area to be covered by the prayer walk, as well as opening and closing prayers and a short passage of scripture. The booklets are available in each church and it is hoped that as many people as possible will take part so we can be a part of this massive global prayer wave and have a real shared sense of praying together across our villages.
